Nivea extra white makeup clear review

Nivea is a pioneering skincare brand. Can you believe that their best-selling cream was first introduced way back in 1911? Personally, I have fallen in love with their Facial Cleansing Wipes for those long days where I'm simply too tired for multiple cleansing steps. But here’s exciting news that will

ChangeTheWayYouCleanse: Nivea just launched two new Zero-Alcohol Cleansers with Liza Soberano as the official ambassador!

The Bagani actress talked about her skin cleansing routine with two basic steps: removing makeup and washing her face. This made her a perfect fit for the new Nivea MicellAIR 3-in-1 Caring Cleanser and the Nivea Whip Foam Cleanser. With the heavy makeup commonly used for shoots and tapings, she likes to be extra clean by using both. She did share her quick and easy skincare hack for those lazy days, "When I'm lazy, I'm a wipe off girl [using the Nivea MicellAIR]. But when I'm super masipag, I'll do wipe off and wash off [with the Nivea Whip Foam]."

As for those days when her skin is extra stressed, this is her beauty secret before applying makeup: “It's still the same as what I do on a regular day but before I do makeup, I ice my face just to close the pores that I have that are open. Also, if my eyes are puffy, if I'm kind of puyat, I like to ice my eyes also just to make sure that the puffiness subsides. And what else? That's practically it. I don't like to do too much with my face, because I'm afraid that if I do something that my face is not used to, that's when it'll start reacting differently.”

Both the Nivea MicellAIR Cleanser and the Nivea Whip Foam Cleanser come in Extra White and Acne Clear variants. I tried using the Extra White pair, which contains Natural Pearl Extract and Licorice to aid skin brightening.

I like using the MicellAIR as it never feels drying after. I even tried using it as my first cleanser before the Whip Foam and it worked well enough. I found the Nivea MicellAIR to be gentle on the skin. It removes light makeup but you’d probably want to use a dedicated eye makeup remover for those stubborn waterproof makeup. Here’s a test I did with three of my waterproof eyeliners [from left: Eye of Horus, Cargo, Make Up For Ever, concealer]:

The eyeliners finally came off after 20 swipes. My skin was blotchy because I was swiping with pressure already but it went away after a while. The Nivea MicellAIR is available in 125ml [P99] and 200ml [P169] which makes it roughly P0.82/ml.

The Nivea Whip Foam Cleanser is formulated to create a thick creamy foam. It's supposed to reduce friction without the usual skin tightness from foam cleansers. Available in 50ml [P99] and 100ml [P169], the Nivea Cleansers aim to be budget-friendly.

I’ve been using the Whip Foam in Extra White and it also feels gentle on my skin. I like the foam effect that doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped of moisture. It does leave an extra clean feeling, so I follow up with serum and moisturizer immediately after just to be safe. My skin has gone back to its dry state so I really need to layer my skincare. I didn’t experience any breakouts or reactions from using the cleanser but of course, YMMV.

The Nivea MicellAIR Cleanser and Nivea Whip Foam Cleanser are available at all leading supermarket and department stores nationwide.

So at this point, I’m ditching my initial plan to review my skin care in the right application order. I will still review each of them, but this way, I won’t have to feel guilty if I have some intermezzo again 😃

Which by the way, I’m having right now.

It’s a long weekend here in Indonesia and I felt kinda bored. Then I remembered that I had some products that I was curious to try.

Last month, I went to the Home Coming Day at my university and got a Nivea goodiebag. I was so thrilled when I found out that the goodiebag contained many full-sized products! Such a treat for a blogger, because then I would have some products to try and review. I don’t know who provided the goodiebag, so generous.

One, two, three, four, five, SIX! Six different, full-sized products!

I’m going to review some of them, but what I wanted to try and review today are the two cleansers: Nivea White Oil Control Make Up Clear 2in1 Foam and Nivea White Oil Control Make Up Clear 2in1 Mud.

Left: Foam. Right: Mud

The names are quite mouthful, aren’t they?

As you can see, they come in 100 ml tube-packaging. It’s nice and travel-friendly. Here are the backsides:

Foam
Mud

They’re completely the same, except for the “foam” and “mud” part.

So the 2in1 means makeup remover and oil control foam in one product. They both claim to have ten benefits, and since they’re in Bahasa Indonesia, I’m going to translate that for you: 1. help to reduce excess sebum, 2. [keep skin] shine-free, 3. [make] skin feels smooth, 4. even out the skin tone, 5. [make] skin look brighter, 6. [make] pores look smaller, 7. help to prevent blackhead, 8. help to prevent whitehead, 9. help dark spots to fade, 10. [make] skin feels soft.

I feel like the claims are quite redundant. Like, the first and second claims should be one point instead of two separate points, same goes to the third and the tenth claims. I’m also quite skeptical about the other claims, like the fourth and sixth. From my years of trial-and-error experience with skin care, I’d say it would take more than just a cleanser. I’d be raving about a cleanser if it could do more than cleansing my skin effectively, but I wouldn’t demand or even expect more than that, because what cleanser does, is well, cleansing. That’s also why I judge a cleanser mostly on its cleansing ability, rather than on the other claims.

So let’s see how well they do.

Tadaaa!

This is the challenge. I went a bit crazy with the swatch, hehe. Told you I was bored. The “Hi!” black swatch was Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner. The heart-shaped swatches below that were BLP Lipcoat in Butter Fudge, Peppermint Pink, and Persimmon Pie. They’re all super pigmented and have amazing staying power.

First, let’s check out the foam one.

It’s white, thick, and creamy, with fresh, perfumey scent. The scent is actually nice and refreshing, but since I use a lot of COSRX products lately, which contain no perfume, I find the Nivea’s scent a bit strong.

I tried it on the “Hi!” [eyeliner] swatch and the first heart-shaped [lipstick] swatch. Rubbed it for about a minute.

And rubbed it again for another minute, then rinsed.

As you can see, it managed to remove my lipstick swatch, but not the eyeliner swatch. The eyeliner swatch faded just a bit, though I’ve been rubbing it quite hard. I wouldn’t do that if the eyeliner is actually on my eyelid.

Now let’s check out the mud one.

It looks kinda funny. It’s also thick and creamy – similar consistency to the foam, but the color is silvery. Like it comes from alien, hehe. The scent is similar – if not the same – to the foam.

As with the foam, I rubbed it for about a minute.

And rubbed it again for another minute, then rinsed.

Same result: It managed to remove my lipstick swatches, but failed to remove my eyeliner swatch. The eyeliner swatch was faded some more, but wasn’t removed completely.

Conclusion: Both cleansers do an okay job at removing makeups. If you use only light makeups, I think each cleanser will remove them nicely – doesn’t matter which one since they’re very, very similar to my opinion. Which means, if you get one of the cleansers, there’s no need to get the other one. If you wear layered of heavier makeup, though, I recommend using oil-based cleanser or micellar water instead.

And I think I should be doing the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner review soon, since it’s so great and has mighty staying power!
