Google play pauses music when the screen goes to sleep after updating to android 9

I have a Huawei Mate 20 Lite. After the latest Android update to version 9 my Google play app pauses my music when the screen goes to sleep. I checked the battery settings and the app is allowed to run in background. I have restarted my phone but it still won't play when the screen is asleep. Can anyone offer any advice please?

I have the same issue pie 9 armor 6e [2019] after lock screen applied apps shut off after 30 seconds. Audible, Amazon music, fitness app [pedometer]. And more worrying anti virus. Needs fixing asap!!! Please. Thank you. :] As with above post permissions are set and battery options. Phone restarted hard and soft. No update available Feb 2019.... This is not an insignificant problem for a large number of people for the newest release!!!

FOUND A SOLUTION!!!!! ... From all the possible options there could have been in the settings app.... It's nothing to do with what's in there.... The nav bar. . Box circle triangle.... Select the box for apps that have been running then there are two circles a tools and an x.... Select the tools. Come up with "WHITE LIST" ... Simply select what apps you want to run in background. All my stuff works again!!!! Hope this helps.pleaae let me know.

If the background restriction is ON, the music will be stopped in few seconds or when the phone goes to sleep. Turn off your background restriction: Goto Settings -> Apps -> Google Play Music -> Battery; here you can manage the battery usage settings, look for "Allow background activity" and turn that ON. This should fix the problem.
***above option is for Samsung S series. But pretty much all android should have the same steps to turn on the background activity for any App. Hope this helps!
