Copy Large Files [Over 2GB] using Windows Remote Desktop Connection
We’ve done a few Sitecore migrationslately and had to move some big database backupsfrom server to server. If this was Linux, we’d just use Rsync but we always use Windows Remote Desktop Connection so it wasn’t something we’d come across too often in the past.
If the file is under 2GB we’ve just been able to copy and paste it through RDP from the remote computer to whichever computer we are connecting to it from. However if it’s over 2GB you can not and it doesn’t give you any message to say it isn’t working, it just does not copy.
So, after some Googling here is how to do it.
1. Open the Remote Desktop Connection and then click options
2. Navigate to the Local Resources tab and then clickMore at the bottom.
3. Expand the Drives node and then tick the Drive you’d like to have access to on the remote PC.
4. Now when you connect to the remote computer you will have access to the local drive and be able to copy large files to it through Windows explorer
