Where can I download El Capitan 10.11 0?

Need to download 10.11.0 (El Capitan)

I'm helping a friend update their older MacBook, and it says we can update it to 10.11.x.

However, when downloading El Capitan from Apple, it gives us a 10.11.4 combo. But then when we try to install it, it says the computer first needs 10.11.

Catch 22.

Does anyone know where one can find 10.11.0?

I should've included that link in my post, PeterW. We definitely downloaded that El Capitan from there, but it's the 10.11.4 combo, and it's the one that says you need to first have 10.11.0 before it can be installed.

You have to have bought it iw while it was still offered from the app store or you're SOL.

-Well, unless you torrent it.

I was afraid of that, and starting to come to the same conclusion.

Are you sure that you used this link from step 4 in that document that gets it from the app store? (the full 10.11.6 installer)

It sounds like you downloaded the combo update from the support/downloads page instead.

It is this way for all major OS releases. Better to 'buy' a copy that you don't need, lest not having it. It's been this way since 10.7, I think.

But yeah, easily torrented.

Yo, that links leads to a 6GB installer, not a combo updater. Try it.

No, we definitely used that link in Step 4, but it keeps downloading the 10.11.4 "combo" and then that says we need 10.11 first.

It's a weird conundrum. I tried downloading it to my mac, but it won't let me, since I'm already running Mojave. I will try to find 10.11.6 on a torrent site, like LimeTorrents.info

What part of “To download it, your Mac must be running MacOS High Sierra or earlier” is too tough?

I understood that, PeterW, but it wasn't able to download to his Mac, either, and he is running 10.10.5.

What is the full file name on your computer of the file you downloaded?

Is it an app in your Applications folder, or a .dmg file in your Downloads folder?

Did you initiate the download from a web page, or from the Mac App Store?

And what is the file size, and what is the computer that your friend is running and trying to download it from?

But, when I try to download it (I am on a MBP 2011 with Mavericks 10.9.5), I get this:

We could not complete your purchase.
This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer.

The "learn more" button takes me here

which is a support article "OS X Mavericks system requirements"

I came to the conclusion that Apple iCloud, App Store, and all software download, requirements, prerequisites and all compatibility issues are a big cluster fsck these days.

They have better support for iTunes in Windows 7 than they have for their OS X users.

What a treason. What a shame.
