Mazda has updated its beautiful compact crossover, the CX-30 into a more desirable entry-level crossover. While most yearly updates of this segment are confined to more standard features, and subtle design tweaks, the 2023 Mazda CX-30 gets more under-the-skin updates with more power and more MPG figures.
The base 2.5-Liter Skyactive inline-4 engine now churns out 191 hp [up from 186 hp of last year]. With tweaks to its clever cylinder-deactivation technology, the new CX-30 with the base engine also returns 2 MPG more across the board for a more efficient ride.
Also, to stay on top of the safety game, Mazda has updated the chassis and features to comply with IIHS' latest safety protocols. All of these updates also add in a $450 bump in the MSRP, with the 2023 CX-30 now starting from $22,950. As for the design and interior comfort and technology features, there are no major updates.
The 2023 Mazda CX-30 is now stronger against its ever-evolving competition including the likes of the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Volkswagen Taos to name a few. It would not be foolish to compare this beautiful Mazda with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 when it comes to interior design and quality of materials, because it's that good!
Apart from strengthening its safety suite, the beautiful-looking 2023 Mazda CX-30 also adds 5 hp and 2 MPG more to its humble base 2.5-Liter engine.
2023 Mazda CX-30 Adds 5 HP To Its Flexible Engine
Mazda
The 2.5-Liter naturally aspirated base engine in the 2023 Mazda CX-30 gets a humble bump in power. It now churns out 191 hp [5 horses more than last year's model] but torque continues unchanged with 186 lb-ft of torque. As for the more powerful 2.5-Liter turbo four-cylinder Skyactiv engine, things remain unchanged with up to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission in both engine options, and the CX-30 continues to be a joyful car to drive. The driving dynamics are lively and are one of the few crossovers that will put a smile on the driver's face with its involved driving experience.
2023 Mazda CX-30 Is More Efficient With 2 MPG More
Mazda
Along with the 5 hp bump, the base engine in the 2023 CX-30 also gets a minute bump in efficiency as well. Mazda claims that a 2 MPG is in order across the table. The 2022 CX-30 returns 24 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and a combined 26 MPG.
For 2023, these numbers are slated to go up to 26 MPG in the city, 33 MPG on the highway, and a combined 29 MPG. This has been made possible with an updated cylinder-deactivation technology. As for the more powerful turbocharged engine, the MPG figures remain unchanged at 22/30 MPG [city/highway].
2023 Mazda CX-30 Gets Improved Safety Features
Mazda
Mazda has also updated the 2023 CX-30 to comply with the latest safety protocols from IIHS. The 2022 CX-30 has received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS, and they plan to do the same this year as well.
Complying with the latest safety protocols has added new and improved safety features in the 2023 CX-30 like rear side airbags, rear seat belt pre-tensioners, and shin pads on all the door panels. Mazda has also strengthened the B- and C-pillars for better endurance during mishaps, including roll-overs.

Apart from these updates, the CX-30 continues to come with the wholesome i-Activsense suite of driver assistance systems that includes features like Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Smart Brake Support, High Beam Control, and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist.
2023 Mazda CX-30 Interior: Comfort And Technology
Mazda
The interior is carried over unchanged, but we can't stop from praising the beautifully and minimally crafted cabin of the 2023 CX-30. The interior surely sits a notch above the competition and the choice of materials is also commendable, with a hint of luxury.
While the seating space is ample in the second row, things get a bit tight on the third row. And the cargo space is not the best in the segment with just 20.2 cu-ft with all seats up.
Mazda
But technology features are wholesome for this entry-level crossover. It comes with heated front seats along with an eight-way power adjustment for the driver seat. Other comfort technology features include an electronic parking brake, push-button start, a power liftgate, and a moonroof.
Mazda
The infotainment system, while small at 8.8-inches, comes bundled with the staple features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a wireless charging pad. The infotainment system is also loaded with Mazda Connected Services which can be used to remotely lock, unlock, and even start the vehicle via the MyMazda app.
2023 Mazda CX-30 Continues To Be A Beautiful Crossover
Mazda
Mazda makes beautiful-looking cars, and they have mastered the art of flaunting sharp lines and smooth curves in one gorgeous package. There are no changes to the design in the 2023 CX-30, and we are glad. The high-riding crossover continues to flaunt chunky black cladding all around the bottom and this three-year-old design stands tall against the new wave of crossovers in this segment.
