Multiple cohort studies have revealed a notable disparity in the prevalence rate of angle-closure glaucoma among Asian Americans compared to individuals of other races. Among this diverse population, Vietnamese Americans have been identified as the subgroup with the highest relative risk of developing this specific type of glaucoma. Show With a population of over 2 million Vietnamese individuals residing in the United States, they constitute nearly 10% of the Asian population in the country. Consequently, it is crucial for healthcare professionals to be cognizant of the elevated prevalence of glaucoma within this community and to facilitate access to the necessary care for affected individuals. An important consideration arises from the fact that only 48% of Vietnamese American adults are proficient in English. Therefore, the provision of language resources becomes imperative to aid healthcare professionals in effectively communicating with Vietnamese-speaking patients regarding their eye health. ObjectiveThe objective of this article is to offer a basic vocabulary in Vietnamese to assist healthcare professionals in their interactions with Vietnamese-speaking patients concerning their eye health. Vietnamese stands out as the only Asian language that employs the Latin alphabet, which may facilitate pronunciation for English speakers.
