If you don’t know or even don’t remember or recall your storage descrying password for your Android smartphone, chances are that it is for the same reason you landed on this post. Trust me, you made the right choice when you chose to visit this tutorial since it contains the step by step guide on how to fix the “type password to decrypt storage” error.
I never knew of this error not until I exchanged my old iTel smartphone for a Lenovo mobile with a friend. Sadly, this guy never remembered that he had set a decryption password on his mobile not until the phone prompted it after a soft wipe. Gosh, I never wanted to lose this mobile since I also wanted to donate it to someone who badly needed it.
After a good number of attempts, we finally found a way on how to solve “type password to decrypt storage” error and which indeed worked and we were able to use the Lenovo once again. He went happy and so I did. One thing I thought of was to share with you about this working solution hoping that it will be helpful for you the reader.
How to solve type password to decrypt storage
Whether you own a HTC, Lenovo, Xperia, Huawei, LG, Sony, Nox, Kyocera and etc, this guide below will help you solve the above error for as long as you follow the directions.
1. Turn off your Android mobile and remove the battery for at least 5 seconds if you can.2. Replace the battery back, press and hold Vol down, then press power key.3. Once the phone vibrates, release power key and keep hold of Vol key until you see recovery screen.4. Using Volume keys, select wipe / delete all data and press power key to confirm.
5. Select Yes to all data and press power key to confirm.

How should/do I fix this? I haven't done anything funky to the device, except maybe rooting it. One day, when I was powering it on it just gave me this message. I have never set a password, and tried every password I could think of. What should I do?

Hello All, I am very Happy to say that when i too face such problem i jus come to google from where i got this forum and place , by listening and seen so much threats ,I got very easy and good solution for it. Steps: 1- Put out all urs Sim, memory card ,mobile battery from mobile. 2- Put other sim & restart it. 3- Again put out new sim again and mobile battery too. 4- Again put urs old sim means- original sim & jus restart urs Mobile all get fine...

If you didn't encrypt the device and you know it was not encrypted, then there is no password. Your /data partition is probably corrupted. If the Nexus 7 sees a /data partition it cannot read, it assumes it is encrypted, asks you for the password, and tries to decrypt it using that password. If the decrypt fails, it assumes you entered the wrong password and asks again. Your trouble is almost certainly that the /data partition is corrupted due to a hardware problem. So no password in the world is going to decrypt a corrupted bit of storage.

The thread linked above has instructions on how you might be able to reformat that partition. Maybe. Or it might be corrupted badly enough that you cannot reformat it.

HTC ONE my girlfriend brought two years ago on Amazon,kept stating low memory. Trying to clear space week after,frustration set in. Started deleting things I wasn't two sure of and may have deleted something vital. Now for pass week all I get is screen for decryption.
