2023 Subaru Forester colors

In the model years between the release of a new generation and its subsequent midcycle update, automakers tend to lay low, maybe adding a fresh paint color or making small adjustments to trim levels -- or, sometimes, changing nothing at all. That's the case with the 2023 Subaru Forester, which soldiers on unchanged, except for its price tag.

Subaru has announced pricing for the 2023 Forester compact SUV, which will make its way to dealerships in December. All models are powered by a 2.5-liter flat-4 gas engine producing 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, which is routed to all four wheels by way of a continuously variable transmission. All trims also receive EyeSight, Subaru's suite of active and passive driver aids that includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning.

A base Forester will set you back $27,620. That includes the $1,225 destination charge, which has risen $100 for the new model year, as well as the $1,200 price hike that affects every Forester variant across the six-trim lineup. The base Forester comes with a bunch of standard equipment, including a 6.5-inch infotainment screen with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Move up to the $29,395 Forester Premium and you'll get heated seats and mirrors, a power driver's seat, privacy glass and keyless start, in addition to Subaru's X-Mode with hill descent control. The $30,965 Forester Sport adds sportier visual elements inside and out, as well as blind-spot monitoring and rear USB-A ports.

The Sport's interior adds some sharp orange elements.

The Forester Wilderness rises in price to $34,020. This unique trim picks up several mechanical improvements over the standard Forester, including suspension modifications for better off-roading prowess (and added ground clearance), as well as beefy tires residing under chunkier body cladding and extra underbody protection. It can also tow 3,000 pounds, double that of the other Foresters.

At the upper echelons of the Forester lineup, we have the $33,075 Limited. In addition to larger wheels and body-color mirrors, the Limited adds a larger 8-inch infotainment display, leather-trimmed upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control. Finally, there's the $36,495 Forester Touring, which picks up fancier aesthetic trimmings, LED fog lights, roof rails, a power front passenger seat and heated rear seats. It also carries DriverFocus, a driver-monitoring system that can bring the car to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive, as well as gesture controls for the automatic climate control.

Subaru has announced prices and details for the 2023 Forester that is set to arrive at dealerships across the United States in December where it will be sold in Base, Premium, Sport, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring guises.

Powering all versions of the 2023 Subaru Forester is a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder pumping out 182 hp and 176 lb-ft (238 Nm) of torque that’s mated to a Lineartronic CVT and symmetrical all-wheel drive system. The SUV is rated at 33 mpg on the highway and can tow up to 1,500 lbs (680 kg) or 3,000 lbs (1,360 kg) in Wilderness configuration.

Found at the base of the range is the standard Forester model, priced from $27,620 including a $1,225 destination and delivery fee. Among its standard features is a 6.5-liter infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote keyless entry, dual USB-A charge ports, and a $625 option package that adds 17-inch aluminum wheels and new roof rails.
